Around India In 80 Trains
Amritsar
The following is a selection of photographs taken at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Wagah border, a ceremonial border separating India and Pakistan.
Every day the Golden Temple serves free food to anyone who comes through its doors, irrespective of colour and religion. The langar is available 24-hours a day and is a symbol of the humility and all-encompassing nature of the Sikh faith. It is run entirely by volunteers and survives on donations from visitors who benefit from the generosity.
The Wagah border lies between the two cities of Lahore and Amritsar and is renowned for its evening ceremony that involves the lowering of the two national flags amid a rather hilarious and colourful affair of pomp and fanfare.
