Our base camp for the journey is Chennai, and in the first week that we spent "acclimatising" to our new surroundings, Passepartout loitered around the staff quarters where we stayed and also managed to catch a few glimpses of the lord and lady of the manor. Starting at the top is Govindama, holding what turned out to be a rather excellent tandoori chicken. Next is Thomas who has been in service for almost 50 years and yet still looks like he sleeps in an oxygen tent every night. The other staff include Munswamy and Pushpa and Shakeera learning to flambé steaks.
