Around India In 80 Trains
Shimla
Once we had arrived in Shimla, we visited Kanwar Ratanjit Singh of the Kapurthala family who owns a beautiful home attached to a school where his wife is the principal. Their old family home, once the summer lodging of the viceroy, is now occasionally let out as a hotel and is a magnificent display of both Indian and European royal art and interiors.
The next group of photos show the Mall, the centre of Shimla busy with shoppers, tourists and random amblers, and the last set show the little toy train that takes five hours to wind itself around the hills - eventually ending up in Kalka, not far from Chandigarh where I enjoyed the most fantastic meat burger I have ever eaten in my life.
