Around India In 80 Trains
Hotel Samrat Regency
First and foremost if you don't like climbing stairs then don't stay here. Or if you do, make sure you aren't on the fifth floor like we were as there is no lift. However, the great height makes for fantastic views once you do get up there and makes this the perfect spot to watch absolutely beautiful sunsets over the hills.
When we walked in we took one look at the tariff and started to walk out when the manager asked what we were looking for. We said we wanted a double room for Rs.400 so he knocked a few hundred off the Rs.800 per double room and gave us a lovely double for Rs.500. The room had a set of windows that looked over the main hotel balcony which made it bright and sunny all afternoon and thankfully seemed to keep in some of the heat at night. The room was thickly carpeted, the beds had plenty of heavy blankets and the walls were covered with bright seventies paper - and there was a bizarrely loud TV with satellite channels. The bathroom was clean with a strong shower that had constant hot water - an absolute necessity in that sort of climate where damp hangs everywhere when it isn't the peak of summer.
I can highly recommend the hotel if you don't plan on being there very much aside for sleeping as it sits on a curve on the mall so most restaurants, cafes and shops are directly beneath you or less than a five minute walk away.
